Post subject: | recommissioning my mini |
Hi all, I'm looking for pointers and tips from the experts at ausmini, my practical experience in mechanics is limited. I have before - serviced cars, changed bushes, made modifications to trim and interiors, and I once took a course in Mig welding that qualified me to work, but I never used it to do anything as storing welding gas on my property made my house insurance premium hit pluto. My car has been stored on axels stands for over a year. So, I have had a good look around the car, have given it a clean, checked the oil level, changed the battery. The front wheels appear to be stuck (not rotating) i assume that's binding brakes as it's not in gear and the handbrake is off? I know that will need to drain the oil, and use clean stuff. replace the sparks. what else? I also noted that something had leaked on the inside of the front tyre (offside), I guess someone will have an idea what that is, orange kind of fluid. I will take some pics alter this week and upload it of anything I think specifically warrants it. I also noted that paint is good but that there are a few ares wher it has cracked and there is surface rust forming, mostly around seams, and where a previous owner has thinly painted the roof right. I will need to remove small parts of paint and rust and repaint. so my plan is to get a die grinder and remove paint and rust, then cure/ruststop that area, then prime, sand back, prime again, then paint a few coats over that. I am quite sure that I am assuming too much here, probably missing vital points through my ignorance and lack of experience. Please feel free to tell me like a small child, what is what. Thanks in advance! Foz |
