OK, I'm removing the windscreen wiper wheel boxes and tube assy. I've disconnected the retaining nuts from the splines and removed the pipe from the motor/gearbox. I'm expecting the wiper wheel boxes and tube assy to drop back to the firewall but it only moves 1/2 inch or so. Any idea's on where to go from here.?

I'm guessing the bonnet hinges have to be removed at the firewall?

Just my opinion
remove the bonnet from the hinges , not the hinges from the body
there are brass washers in between each side of the hinge and the mounting slot on the body , trying to get them back in when reinstalling the hinges is a real pain in the butt
