Driving home from school today in the rain and the indicators stopped working, and so did the windscreen wipers. So it sucked driving home, having to hand signal and not being able to see through my windscreen ![]() Strangs thing was, once i got home, and turned off the engine, the windscreen wipers and the indicators started working again...strange... ![]() |

The thing about this is that everything works, just not simultaneously. It sounds like one of your earths somewhere is fiddley, or something is earthing where it shouldn't. |

My fuse box is usually the culprit for exactly the same symptoms. I put a little bit of wet and dry sandpaper around a small bit of dowel and rubbed that around where the fuses sit in their holders. Made it all bright and shiny for a good contact on the fuse. |

Fuse Box. Don't blame Lucas for poor maintenance by the owner. ![]() |

Two possibilities really: A. Low battery charge state - and so your battery can not supply both the engine ignition system and headlights and wipers + flashers. Possible Causes: Alternator belt too loose, loose connection on the battery, . Easiest way to see whether its the alternator or a loose battery connection -- see if your lights shine brighter with the engine off than with the engine on and the wipers on. Or check battery charge (DC not AC) - should be between 12.2 and 12.7v with the engine off with the mid-high 12s are the best. And the battery voltage shouldnt fall and idealy should rise with the engine on. B. fuse box as said or at the line to it from the solenoid or at the solenoid itself. sometimes oxidasation on the terminals only allows contact at the fuse in a single position and the vibration of the engine displaces the fuse. |

![]() damn straight!! I've never had a problem with lucas electrics that wasn't caused by me or some other monkey.... it's definitely a dirty fuse, you'd probably find that more than just the indicators and wipers stopped - stop lights, temp and fuel guage as well probably... |
