any ideas on what size and best types to use?

I'm gonna do an oil change as the matic is still leaking a oil from round there somewhere so thought I'd replace the washer also whilst there

cheers

It's just an annealed copper washer, 5/8" bore.
You could use red fibre but it's not as durable.
It might be coming from the shift cable connection near the plug, old autos tend to drip there a bit.

thanks Doc

I didn't get around to doing it just yet anyways - too busy elsewhere!

I grabbed a multi size copper washer pack from supercheap and will have a go tomorrow.

Is the shift cable plug under the gearbox there? I think I know where you mean, but I do think it is the sump plug as its the same old plug washer from bugger knows when I believe!

Probably work hardened if it is copper, preventing it from deforming and sealing properly. Better off with a new one but if you get stuck you could anneal it.

To anneal it, you heat it red hot on a brick with a gas torch, and then drop it edge on into water. Result = dead soft.

Never had a problem with them.
