So I did an oil change the other weekend and probably overfilled the oil a bit.

So I'll drain it tomorrow and get the level right but it has gottent too hot the last couple of times I have driven it and is running really rough.

Also there is a bit of water around when I stop but I am not sure if thats just because the thing has gotten too hot or a hose is done.

It has recently had a recore to the rad and has been fine since so I dont think it is an issue there.

It was due to go in to Matt Read for a carby rebuild so is the overheating more likely to be to do with whcih of the following:

Too much oil
Carby needs rebuild and adjustment
Hose leakage
Timing etc

Any ideas welcome.

Tomorrow I'll be:

Checking the hoses
Sorting the oil level
Checkling the plugs
Checking the timing is still on (SimonBBC electronic dizzy should still be ok)
Double checking the rad recore hasn't failed

Anyway I hope I haven't left anything out and at least given someone a chuckle with my over-tired ineptitude.

Check all radiator hoses u might be loosing water which is causing u to overheat

Check to see if your oil is milky, or your water has oil in it.

If it has gotten very hot you may have blown a head gasket also.

But first start it and run it looking under the bonnet and revving it will increase the water pressure and if it is a hose you should see it squirting out, pouring out on the floor.

This happened to me on holidays when i was in brisbane. Ran fine all the way there, all of a sudden was getting hot and didnt know why and thought radiator had kicked it in. Checkled it out when i could see and the heater outlet on the rear radiator pipe had split (Luckily i brung a spare with me)

Did you bleed the cooling system (thermostat opened) after refitting radiator? (check temp & pressure/firmness of top & bottom hoses after operation for an indication)
Is temp sender giving false reading?
Is gauge/indicator operating correctly?
Was coolant put in the cooling system when refilled or did you only use water?
Is carb running lean?
At back of cylinder block there is a drain plug, is it blocked when you remove plug?
Comp test?
Water pump & or bearing?
Belt tension?
Radiator leak?
top/bottom Hose leak?
Bypass hose leak?
Heater? if so check it is getting heat/hot in cabin.

Ok here's the verdict.

The bottom hose's top joint was not done up properly and leaking
The heater take off has a dodgy stud an isn't sealing.

It was also pretty murky.. so I gave it a flush.

When it gets round to a rebuild it'll get hot tanked I guess..
