Has anyone done this before?

Mate is contemplating it..
8 port
5 speed
Adjustable suspension
big brakes.....

Would a 8 port with webbers fit under the bonnet?

There's that cross flowed 8 port that lived in Sydney which is floating somewhere around in SA at the moment.
Numberplate is/was SIKART.

It has two great big holes in which the K&N air filters pop through.
TOUGH looking piece of kit!

Would a 5 speed box be able to take the power that engine would put out?
Why a 5 speed box anyway? Final drive is still 1:1 isn't it?

Last time I saw that 8 port Moke willy is referring to it had a couple of eBay electric superchargers (overpriced PC fans) fitted to it.

It's 1310cc Downton stage 3 head, twin 1.5" hs4 and Downton cam. And lots more goodies.... That's what I was told it would produce from the engine builders...

Could be about right, at the crank (real HP measured on an engine dyno). But at the wheels, no way.

yeah, crank HP, quite possibly, but saying "the engine builder said" is like saying "my mum says I'm handsome"

Brett,
To take as gospel any horsepower figures quoted by an engine builder or Any Body on a forum such as this for that matter is fraught with embarrasment!!!

Certainly at crank. I'd love to get it on the dyno. Did it at muster but had a buckled rim. So couldn't get it all the way up, as the dyno bloke was worried

There was a little red moke in Asia i think with panelled off rear , like a tray & had 8-port on it with the four bell-mouths out the front, big phat 13"x8 or 10" wide slicks,,, looked tough & i bet it went hard to

:-)

this isn`t a horspower debate,,, nor is it a debate whether a 4 or 5 or 6 speed box will handle the power

the fella was just mentioning a package that his friend is contemplating putting together,,, asking if it had been done before & if the webers woiuld fit under the bonnet ... cool i reckon,,, i like the idea,,, go for it i say

but i doubt that the ram tubes/air filter would fit under the bonnet ,,, as in--> for them to be of any decent worthwhile length/size i reckon they`d be stickin out the front

hope it all comes together for him, & keep us informed please, sounds like a great plan... gotta love wild hot mokes hey? :-)
