Hey guys!

I did an Ausmini search for protech shocks and i was surprised i didnt find too much on them.

They're getting massive wraps over on turbominis, and seem preferred over spax, gaz, etc especially due to their customer service and their ability to be rebuilt. Oh, and their big (comparative) weight savings with their alloy bodied versions.

Just wondering if anyone knows much about them, any experiences, i see than meeni will be using them, but he has coilovers, whereas i'd be going for normal shocks, see -

eventual plans for the mini is 10" wheels, lowered within reason (not planning on trimming wheel arches), A-series with 100+bhp (probably turbo), and used as a road car with track days, motorkhanas, general fun thrown in.

On their site, they have two lengths (standard and lower). Being that i plan to lower the mini, would i be more correct in saying i would be best going for the Lower?

hit me up with opinions and thoughts!

That's kinda odd selling them without the spring, and no info on what spring you might need!

They don't use a spring, they are just a shock to replace the original fitment.

When you buy the coil overs you ask the guy what he would recommend for your driving / car / road conditions and he recommends the correct spring rate for you.. Then you get springs..

I'd think they're shockers are good, everything else is, and have never heard a bad word about them unlike gaz and spax


And on the lowered and standard height thing, if your running your at at anything under bog standard height, get lowered

Thanks meeni, i was leaning towards the low. I read somewhere on TM about an exra-low but after emailing kevin from protech he didnt mention them. So i'll say low would be the choice.

Just for your interest (in case you didnt already know) one of the guys weighed his old gaz/spax (cant remember which) and new protech coilovers, the gaz/spax were 1.5kg each and the protech were 980g. A fairly big weight difference! Every gram counts for minis

Going off protechs website the shipping for the shocks is £90, all up its £290, or about $450. Surprisingly the same shocks were on huddleston spares for £173, £27 less than protechs own site

Then the usual little sprinklings throughout build threads. It seems that one of the Protech owners used be co-owner at Gaz but he left after getting the shits lol but thats also internet rumour
