Post subject:  Fuel Consumption

Hey Guys & Girls

I was just interested in finding out what kind of fuel consumption people are getting. I have a standard 1275 with extractors, but im at the start for rebuilding the car so haven’t ever had it on the road.

Usually about 30mpg whatever that means in today's litres per 100km? Probably 8l per 100km?

UK or US gallons?

Probably dependent on how heavy your right foot is

my Rover 1275 SPI gets about 30MPG (UK) metro peak hour driving/crawling, and anywhere between 40-45MPG UK on long trips. The best I have gotten was 48MPG between melb-sydney.

Here's an Idea of the range you can get:

Years ago our club did an economy run. Wifie drove our modified 850 (more power but probably less gas than standard) and I navigated, slow take offs, short shifting, doing max speed maybe 80kph, coasting into corners, the whole works. After 50miles we had used less than the minimum sale on the pump (2 litres). Another guy in the club in his 1380 had used 12l (that's more about him than the motor!).

I have been getting about 7.5 L/100km on average out of my 1098. That includes regular 'spirited' runs through some twisty mountain roads.

My Mk1 1275 Cooper S does 27 to 30 MPG on a trip. Our 850 does around 40 mpg.

I just tested this in my Moke. Its a 1275, N/A, with extractors and sports muffler being the only mods.

I was driving from my house in West Ryde to my other house in Richmond which is about 48kms with a mixture of slow going (50-60km/h) and medium going (80-90km/h) with lots of lights in between  . On a couple of trips I was driving a full ute back (back seats out) with paint and ladders and other painting equipment and another trip I was carrying an 850 engine and a spare gearbox. I am not a lead foot, but I like to keep up with traffic and speed limits.

Total number of trips between refills was 6 or 288kms

Total fuel put into the Moke from being full to empty to full again was 25.8L

Fuel economy - 8.95L/100kms.

For reference (I had to look it up, as I'm lost when it comes to MPG):

20 MPG = 14.0 L/100km
25 MPG = 11.3 L/100km
30 MPG = 9.4 L/100km
35 MPG = 8.0 L/100km
40 MPG = 7.0 L/100km
45 MPG = 6.3 L/100km
50 MPG = 5.6 L/100km

(That's for Imperial gallons, not the wonky US kind).

Oh, and my warm 1100 (1150) gets between 7.0 and 7.5 L/100km in a mix of urban and freeway driving.

At the first Rylestone Classic, tearing up the mountains in my 850, I averaged 4.6l/100.

I'll see your prius, and raise you some style.

WOW... considering thats uphill in an 850 I am very impressed..!!! (although I am assuming you saved a ton of fuel by rolling it down the hill on the other side ....)

20mph flat chat up the hills probably helped a bit.
