Post subject:  Brake Pressure Regulator, maybe?
Hi All,

Unfortunately I was stuck under the mini on Sunday and didn't have the opportunity (or car) to get out to the Grand Day Out. I have been working hard on the car over the last few months to get it done on time but after one problem gets fixed, you notice another :roll:

Anyway, the most recent problem is this, the car had been left for quite a few months in the garage with the handbrake on and recently i had found that one of the rear cylinders had frozen. Oh well, just have to replace and move on. After replacing the rear cylinders and the brake pipes that i broke whilst replacing the cylinders :roll: i noticed a funny thing. I am getting absolutely no fluid to the left hand side rear cylinder! I disconnected the cylinder pipe and put pressure through the system and still nothing. I was even able to perfectly bleed and adjust the right hand side while the brake pipe for the left was off.

So, if i had my guess, the rear pressure regulator??

BTW, its a mini K with single line brake system

Any opinions?

If you can get fluid to the RH wheel cylinder it's not the pressure limiting valve/regulator. It's a blockage in the outlet.
Put a small drill into the regulator port where no fluid is coming out of, it must be blocked with crud. These 2 outlets are just drilled holes into the body (like a tee)

I had one wheel cylinder block once, I put a 1/16" drill into the cylinder where the bleed nipple was and it cleared it.

if it (the fluid) comes out of the valve then it will be the brake hose that`s blocked

Thanks for the reply's.

I haven't yet removed the hose or the line that connects back to the pressure regulator. By the sounds of it, i need to get these off before splashing out for a new regulator. Just hope i don't break any more lines. As i don't have the tool to flute the tubes, i gets expensive getting these made up.

The wife just starting to put the brakes on to funds going in to this project so i need to get it fixed without replacing something that is not broken, yet :roll:

It's most likely the hose.
If it's the steel pipe, Mini King has new ones.

Hope so, that would be easier to fix.

Can I get new rear hoses at Repco or Bursons?

The car is in Geelong, a fair hike from all the VIC mini suppliers.

I would just order hoses online from Minis Plus or Karcraft. You will get them in a day.
If you go to regular bogan/ricerparts shops these days, the only Minis showing in their computer are MINIS...

Brake/clutch shops should be able to make you a hose, but it will probably cost 3-4 times as much as buying from a mini supplier. Once you take into account having to provide a sample, and wait for them to make it, getting some posted out to you is just too easy!

Not true at all, You would be surprised how many parts are still made locally for the mini. Although in most databases Ive used; minis are listed under leyland for all models.
PBR list the part number for the mini rear hoses as H822, Ask at your average parts place and they will likely have it in the system. Quote the UK part numbers though and you'll get nowhere.

Its a moot point though as I doubt any local store would have mini parts on the shelf, so either way there will be a delivery delay. Not to mention getting your average Supercheap high school drop out to look up leyland and or bmc in a parts book.

Where there any changes to the limiting valve for the single circuit systems throughout the life of the Australian mini. If so, is one better to use than another?

Last time I tried to buy a rear wheel cylinder at Repco (it was a weekend) I was asked is this a 2002 BINI or a later one.:lol:
If it ain't in their system, they have nfi.
Leyland stuff seems to have been dropped off a lot of recent catalogs.

Sure, brake shops can help you, if it's just a hose, or getting pipes made. Seals too. :wink:

Our catalogue list only marina's under Leyland..........they're even rarer than mini's!
