Post subject:  Vintage or veteran?

Hey

The insurance company asked if my mini was vintage or veteran... it's a 67 deluxe.. anyone got any idea? I asked the lady what the difference was and she had no clue. I assumed it was vintage though.

Thanks

It's a tough call. to me, vintage says something like a model T, pre 1950? but a veteran...one that has been to war perhaps? so maybe thats just for jeeps and tanks???

nah i reckon veteran, vintage says to me a really old classic like the model T or silver ghost or something, an absolute classic. wait...mini...classic...

Oh well they only gave me the 2 options.. I guess it doesn't make that much difference.. the lady didn't seem to care about it. I was just interested in the difference anyway.. thanks guys

It was with GIO vintage and veteran.. pretty good deal, I'm paying almost $300 for full comprehensive... It's insured for around $6000

I first rang shannons, but I'm only 18 and they said they don't insure anyone under 19.. I then rang AMMI and they wanted to charge me almost $3000 a year to insure the car for a max of $1900 and I'd have to pay an excess of $1700 if i crashed

I was with shannons when i was 17..I got a quote for a few mini's a i was looking at to but then when i rang back i got some story from the guy saying they didn't insure minis'! i'm like excuse me..shut up haha..i have a reference nuymber and the name of the guy who i had written down previously hehe 8) that guy then shut up and started to stutter in his tracks and said something to himself that they don't 'normally' do this..

$300 for full comprehensive is very good, with GIO car has to be 30yo? i think.., i think you'd be hard pressed to do better..

it's vintage. i have a 67 deluxe also with a similar insurance thing. once it's older that 31 it's classed as vintage. i'm with GIO $280 for comp $10000 if i crash and $850 excess

Do GIO impose any conditions - ie mileage etc coz those rates are really great? Is there an agreed value option?

I'm 90% sure those are limited mileage rates...

OK so I'm vintage - how old do I have to be to be classed as veteran?
Or should I be asking Anton or Makka :?:

I'm 90% sure it's not limited mileage.. I asked them about that.. but I'll give them a call tomorrow and double check. I'm also glad about the salvage thing, where if the car is a write-off they still let you keep it for parts. I'm not sure if other insurance companies have that aswell? I'm assume so for 'classic' cars.

It's always the 10%...Find out, I remember talking to Stuarts dad about it...maybe i was wrong..

Shannon's give retention of the wreck for classic vehicles and also 1 free windscreen replacement per year ;)

50 years is when a car becomes vintage, id say veteran is an earlier car, why not just ask the company what there preferences of vintage and verteran are???
