Hi folks. I need to get a compression test done. Engine has lost power, sounds like maybe 2 cylinders are 'missing' and feels like its only running on 3 at best. Wet spark plugs in 2 & 3 also, but they dry out eventually although it never runs at full power. Oil pressure is a bit low too, not too bad though. No real exhaust smoke to speak of can be seen Pretty sure it's not electrical. I have readjusted points slightly. It could be condenser, but that's more me hoping for a simple solution. I'd lik to start with a compression test and go for there. I'd prefer to get this done at home. Can anyone recommend a good mobile mech who does this sort of thing? Thanks in advance. |

I think (could be wrong) Matt Reid does housecalls for minis, hes been working on these things longer than a lot of us have been alive (atleast me anyway ![]() Compression testers are not that expensive if you wanted to buy one and test it yourself... But if you had a mechanic there like Matt he could diagnose the problem for you then and there and save you a lot of time in guess work ![]() Good luck |

I think i can safely say Matt Read doesn't do mobile jobs anymore. What suburb are you in? |

As has been pointed out, a compression gauge from Repco will be much cheaper than a house call from a professional... and should come with instructions that will allow you to run the test. When the compression numbers come up bad you push the car out onto the street and ring the RACQ (you are a member?) for your free 20 kay tow to Matt's shop. Cheers, Ian |

If you go the way of DIY comp test, I have a tester and am at strathpine if you want to borrow it. I'm not a mechanic so I cant give you any opinions, professional or otherwise ![]() |

Sounds like the best thing is to get it to Matty to sort out, but being the time of year it is, just call first. I'm sure he'll be happy to have a bit of a chat and then you can work out how you're going to get it fixed up ![]() cheers, Jacob |
