Hi. Has anyone looked at using one of the Honda Jazz 1.3L motors for a conversion? Power is around 73kw. |

Somone suggests it every week, but I'm yet to see it done. |

Then why would you bother when a 1275 can do well over 90KW? |

Mini engine wasn't designed to do that, and because the conversion can potentially deliver better power and reliability for the cost, than to buy, rebuild and modify the mini engine if you're paying a mini workshop to do the work. If you can do the engine work yourself on the old skool block, thats far more cost effective though. |

I was just asking. But thanks Harley you have hit the nail on the head. BTW my 1275 rockets my car along and I am not that interested in doing an engine swap. As far as I know aside from extractors and a HS6 it is unmodified. Just noticed the JAZZ engine is 1.3l and an OHC motor with VVT and was curious about the possibility of a conversion. |

Yes it is less powerful, it is also lighter, more fuel efficient and easily modified. Given a chance and the money I get on the conversion bandwagon... have to finish my 100kw 1098 first! ![]() |

![]() At 73kw(~100hp) it is more powerful than the standard power quoted for my 1275 (59hp or 44kw) and from what I understand more than a Cooper S would put out in original configuration. So surely it would be an ok starting point? So 136hp out of a 1098. Is it still a 1098? What are you doing to it? I saw this article by Keith Calver who seemed to be happy with getting 54hp out of a worked 1098... http://www.minimania.com/article/1128/E ... ial_Tuning ![]() |

Yeah but you are hacking up a mini, making an engineered tricky dicky subframe, custom fabricating parts to fit (all $$$$) and for what? 74 measly Kw? I dunno about you but my car is super reliable and very daily driveable... And I can work on it myself, don't know the first thing about Honda computers If you want a small car with a Honda jazz engine, buy a Honda jazz? ![]() |

The 74kw is the engines stock power. You can't compare that to an A series which has to have 5 grand spent on it to achieve that. Another 5k on the honda engine would see it putting out 100-120 kw. Try andget that out of your a series in a usable reliable engine a for less than 10k. |

No one has mentioned the 5th gear to get that in a mini you need to spend thousands of dollars ![]() |

If you do a conversion, the primary reason you do it because you want to. As long as it makes you happy and you are not ruining a rare/desirable model, go for it I say. After seeing Brad's conversion I'd love to have a Daihatsu CB70 Turbo Mini or Moke someday. |

230hp now we're talking. I wasn't against a conversion, I was simply asking why bother for just 74kw |
