Diff ratios for 10" wheels???

Post subject:  Diff ratios for 10" wheels???
I would like to know a few things here so bear with me.
(1) What ratios are available in Aus :?: (Can we make a list please) I'm talking all the ratios that were sold in Aus across minis, mokes, morris 1100's etc (I'm not looking at sc, brand new options brought new from the UK just what the ozzy mini community will have in our sheds and mini shops).
(2) How do I tell one gear set apart from another :?: Are they stamped with their ratio, do I have to count teeth, are their part numbers to look for, do I need to remove the diff from the box?
(3) How do I figure out what RPM I'll be doing at 100km/h :?: (using std 10x5" wheels).
(4) What are they worth :?: Are some rarer than others and worth more to certain people, what should I expect to pay roughly for a good condition gear set (second hand? and from a mini shop?)

As per ^ above, there's the list...

just be aware the 3.93 is rare (& thus expensive).

On 10" wheels I would not be considering anything less than a 3.76:1 unless you like quite high revs :)

Most suited for Cruising is the 3.1:1. Engine does around 3200 rpm in 4th gear at 100 Km/Hr. Mind you my engines are all above 1300cc. biggest being 1408cc.

Note the tallest one in cars sold here was the 3.444.
This was used in the Cooper S and most rodchange boxes except the Mokes.

3.647 was used in most remote boxes (Mini K and 1098 Clubby) except Cooper S

3.765 was used in 850, 997 & 998 Cooper, and 998 Deluxe.

3.9 never sold here,

4.13 and 4.26 are found in Mokes and Morris 1100 & 1100S.

For standard road use the I recon 3.44 to 1 is best option, best mix of acceleration and top speed. To tell the ratio count teeth on both crown wheel and pinion then divide the big number by the small number to get the ratio. As for what RPM at a given speed depends what engine and power. I had a 1989 Rover Mini in the UK, 1000cc, 45BHP, 12 inch wheels with standard 3:1 to 1 diff and it was hopeless at accelerating but cruised at 80MPH up and down the motorways easily. The low diff ratio was all to do with flyby noise regs at highway speed. I also had a 1275cc Metro engine in another mini, also in the UK, it was on 10s with standard metro ratio used, not sure what it was but up there towards the higher end i think and it went like stink but pretty much revved out at 60 to 70 MPH. As to what was available in this country I think the Doc listed it above

I have a brand new, unused, 2.76:1 ratio crown and pinion set here for sale if you are interested.

They are perfect if you do a lot of highway cruising!!..

I'll stick my neck out .... memory is somewhat rusty but someone will correct me:)

3.76 (850) = 14.6 mph/1000 revs (10" wheels)

3.44 (S) = 16.4 mph/1000 revs

3.1 (common aftermarket) 18.1 mph/1000revs.

I vote for the 3.1 for any 1275+ roadie.

3.44 was 16.1 mph/1000 with 145-10 tyres.
About the same with 165/70-10s but these do vary a little in diameter by brand.

Minis Plus has a few 3.93 sets. I bought one from Lindsay for my Moke! Lovely NOS in Leyland boxes. He may have some left.

Not my cup of tea, it's going in a daily driver and I don't want to be sitting on 4700 on the highway, good for a track toy or a weekend warrior.
