Post subject: | Front wheel bearings |
Does anyone know the width of drum brake front wheel bearings with the spacer. I have just bought two new sets from a bearing place and they didn't come with the spacer nor do they have it built in ![]() I have already thrown out the old bearings so I can't measure them. I will have to get some spacers made up. many thanks Jim |

On drum brakes (angular contact ball bearings, separate spacer) the spacers are the same width as the centre web in the swivel hub. Measure it accurately... ![]() |

Ahhh... of course, didn't think of that. Thanks. Next question then... I bought my first set of vernier calipers today. How do you measure something like that when you can't get the calipers in there? I guess you are going to tell me to get a micrometre??? Any other way? |

No.... not a mike.. ![]() OK... here we go- fit the inner bearing tight up to web, then use the stem of the vernier to measure down from the outside edge of hub to the web, and the outside edge to the bearing. Take one away from t'other, and Bob's yer aunties husband. ![]() |

![]() Exactly 11mm Close...! Probably 7/16" actually, coz they are NOT metric bearings...! Bearing # is 16LJT 1-1/4" if memory serves... ![]() |

That sounds right, the kit number was 2782 and was $49 instead of $75 from the mini place. Just wish I still had the spacers, I might go back to the mini wreckers and see how much a couple of 2nd hand spacers will cost me. It cost me $25 for a second hand drive flange today from the wreckers so I am guessing they will only want about $10 for each spacer ![]() |
