Post subject:  Mk 1 windup window conversion??

Hi all im looking for some info on these doors there fitted to a 66 Austin countryman
i had originally had them in TME but didnt get any leads on who may have originally made them there either a good home made job or a aftermarket coversion?. Iv had a good look around the doors but cant find any makers marks. When i got the car it came with a couple of sets of std mk1 doors so im wondering are these doors worth saving or just ditch them what do you guys think??

I'd say its a home job. Probably done at a time where wind up windows had just come in and were hard to get.

Any pics with out the door cards so we can see the mechanisms. Oh and definitely keep them rare = expensive and desirable.

I think it was an aftermarket deal, I recall seeing an advert or a story about them somewhere.

I have come across a similar coversion in the mini down under book theres only a few lines on it but they recon its from a mob out of sydney. The last wa rego sticker is 1976 which helps to date it. Here is a pic of the guts of the door

You said Austin Countryman...........

So why do you think they were done here??

Its probable they were done in the Uk before they were sent here.

That looks like a Ozzy winding mec though, I'd guess out of a Delux/mini K etc.

Definitely is.
I wonder why they didn't just throw a set of Deluxe doors on it.. :?

I am fairly sure that a company called Canopy Industries, made a conversion for the
sliding window door, a long time back, I am not saying this is one of them however.
The main part of the winder mech is not unlike Morris 1100, Austin 1800 and Mini Deluxe,

If it was my car I'd keep the conversion. Much more interesting than throwing a set of Aussie doors on a UK built car.

Different is the new awesome. 8)
