How do I tell the difference between my collection of alternators, what's a 70 amp and whats a 75 or (80amps if they exist).

...& if you're talking about stock Lucas alts, then none of them come close to 70A :lol:

Most of them are identical and have 15C on the back of them. A couple look similar but have a plastic back cover making them a longer item.
Where should the model number be?

Most common original Lucas ones sold here-

1/2 plastic back cover = 15AC (separate regulator, Mini K and Mk2S) 28A approx,

and

full plastic back cover = 16ACR (built in regulator, Clubbies) 34A approx.

There is also a 15ACR? in between these two, it has no plastic back cover and the slip ring and diode setup inside is different. Not sure of output but probably between the 2 above.

Most `Lucas' hi-po ones available now are not Lucas, but aftermarket.

The 28A one is fine, day or night, even with H4 headlights and a couple of driving or fog lamps.

Remember the Mk1 cars, even the Cooper S only had a 22A generator, and that was fine back in the 60s.
You really don't need a BIG alternator unless you are into doof-doof stereo systems.

I sell 70 Amp Brand New Alternators. They bolt straight on. Always good to have some strong back up of power source in a Mini.
