Post subject: | Wheel Centre Caps |
Are centre caps generally a universal fit? Like, if they fit one set of 10" wheels they'll fit another? I'm missing a couple on a set of Dunlop D1 wheels so I was just going to buy a set of generic ones. |

They are usually wheel specific. In fact, minilite caps are different between 6 inch and 5 inch rims. |

Thanks guys, I'll stretch the budget to an extra 20 pounds for vanity caps that don't need to be Dremeled and glued. |

I think the replica caps are a bargain. (provided they do actually fit!) A few years ago when the caps were unavailable there was someone on this forum making them out of brass and then getting them chrome plated and then getting stickers made... They looked fantastic but a lot hard work. |

I was half expecting someone on this forum to reply to say that for engineering purposes they must be machined from billet aluminium by a qualified professional ![]() |

For emergency use, I sometimes cut a coke can in half and it fits perfectly into the centre hole. When it needs cleaning, crack another can and replace it, simple remedy for the right price ![]() |

![]() This `qualified professional' (machinist) has made 1 set of Contessa black ones out of HDPE and fitted a Leyland decal. They look quite nice on my mate's Mk2 S. ![]() |

Back on topic re the Dunlops (and particularly their 1/2 sisters, the Tasmans)- I did look (for John Smidt) at machining them from brass and then getting them plated, but the cost was ridiculous. Most of the material would become swarf- and plating's not cheap either. |
