Post subject:  Help with my floor - now with pics

Hi All,

I've finished my spit and have my old girl up on it.

I have found that the floor pressings for the front have a larger "foot" area on both sides and the flutes in the floor are straight and don't kick in at the outer side.

Dose anyone know where I can get repair panels or will I have to modify the general run of the mill ones to suit?

Ian

What are you trying to do?
How bad are your existing floors?
Can you post photos and we can then give more accurate advice?

If you are after the floor pan with the channel in the middle. buy from Karcraft, they would be the cheapest.

I know one should not assume anything,
However I have assumed that You are repairing A mini 850 If that is correct, then the above mentioned panels are far from what You need
If however The car You are repairing is a Aust Made Mini Produced from around mid 1967 on wards than that type of floor is what You need Most of us Mini parts Guys
sell them,
Regarding the early floor there are a lot of people making this type, and not all of them are what You would be happy with, Unfortunately they are made to a price
You can however get a reasonable facsimile if you look around

Thanks Gents,

John is on the money.

Looks like I'll have to mod the garden variety myself.

If you have a look at the link to Mini Sport you will see the outside channel kicks in, my floor is straight there.

I do have some pics when I get them off the camera

Sounds like you have a very early 850 (1959 to 1961) with the different floor pan before it was modified it to prevent water leaking in the overlapped seams(firewall section to floor section). I used the later floor pan repair section (commonly available) to repair mine. They will fit OK but it is not what a purist would do. The alternative is to have some pans specially made for this model with the straight pressings. I believe there is a UK firm that reproduces panels to suit the 1959 cars - can't remember their name offhand. Check the 1959 register webpage.

Interestingly these floor pans were bolted together prior to welding to the front and rear sections. You will notice these under the rear seat section and along the seam which meets the firewall section.

Thanks willy,

I'll have to have a look next time I'm under the old girl.

I've been lead to believe it's a 61.

This is what the bolts/studs look like. They are used to locate the main body panels together prior to welding

I used Minispares front floor repair sections to repair my 850. They fitted well and the floor pressing lined up ok.

If it were me i would just buy a replacement pan like willy has shown and then cut out the top right hand quarter and replace that part only.

Most of it should line up pretty well.

Thanks for the idea,

I'll get out the wire wheel and chase the tin worm to see how much needs replacing.

I know it runs up into the toe board a bit but she's pretty solid considering it had been a home for rats for a very long time judging by the amount rat debris I had to remove after I'd picked it up.
