1 1/2 inch. I have a deep socket 1/2 inch drive you are free to borrow. You can buy them for really cheap from the markets

Make sure you read this thread:

http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... ght=torque

in particular, the last message by DrMini.

Before reading this I had never bothered with the correct socket (or getting to 72ft/lb), just what I could manage with "other" tools. Now I have the socket, and hit it with the torque wrench.

Buy extra shims!!!

The kits never come with enough shims.

That has been my recent experience too.
I had to raid my stock of crummy old ones to make it all work out.
Even then, Murphy's Law applied, and I found myself wishing for shims slightly thinner or thicker - never one just right.
In the end though, near enough is good enough, esp. for the bottom ones with that dirty big spring backing things up.

No worries I'll get there .

Out of curiosity dunno if the pictures are easy to see. There are small grooves out of each ball end . I wouldnt think to be too much of a concern if I did have them put back in .

So I'm 90% done new Ball Joints all round couldnt have done it without that BFSocket from Chong.. Cheers mate

They're all torqued up but will be disassembled once more cleaned again then greased & springs put in on the bottom.

Just to make sure I'm on par with the more experienced.

I have shimmed them pretty much that the ball can be moved by finger but still tight and when pushed into the hub there is next to none if any play.

I have one query though ... When moving the ball around by hand at some angles it will move freely but then at certain spots bind up. I'm guessing once packed up with grease the lubrication will help this?

Torqued up to 75lbs/ft

Yeah this is normal, but as per another thread earlier you can lap them with valve grinding paste so that they are smoother.

These are the ones that are 11/16th right? Locktabs? :? damn none of mine have those  just spring washers, guess i had better go shopping

Speaking of torque wrenches, what range would I need to cover most or all torque ranges for a mini?

Nope you are thinking of the nut on the end, spring washer is standard.
This one is the bloody big cup that holds the balljoint onto the swivel hub, near the grease nipples. It's 1-1/2" hex with a lock tab.

All you need is one of these or something similar:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-8-AND-1-2- ... eb4&_uhb=1

Bendy bar torque wrenches are very very reliable as they never wear out. I have had my $24 Craftsman USA for yonks. If you have a chance, just calibrate it against a more expensive torque wrench and Robert's your dad's brother.

If you can afford it a clicky beam one is even better

hmm $35 delivered seems pretty good, I guess if i test it against those torque wrenches at work which are cal'd every year i guess it would be sweet
