I'm just sprucing up a set of stock 3.5" mini wheels for my 997 Cooper, and I've just about finished stripping the old paint off a set. I'm going to hit them with some primer before painting them, but can anyone tell me what a good version of the original white colour would be using a Bunnings variety of white? Is it an off white of some sort? cheers Mick |

OEW (Old English White) is a kinda pale cream. Choose one you like (as long as its not refrigerator white) and defy anyone who complains its not "right". The original colour varied quite widely.... Cheers, Ian |

Excellent, I checked out Bunnings auto today, there's about 6 off white colours from the White Knight range and all look kinda Old English white I suppose. I'll compare them against a colour chip I'll take in. cheers |

I have a about a litre of BMC Snow White, it is a creamy white. Bring a wheel up and we can shoot a coat over one to see how it looks. I might need to clean the shed first to find the paint.... and the spray gun..... and the compressor. ![]() |

Ha ha, thanks Morris, I wouldn't want to trouble you though! And I'm back to work this weekend ... It's a shame, cleaning up the shed might have found you a few gems, like a Maroon Cooper S needing a full rebuild? |

Cooper S restoration. You can't have restoration without the Rest and the Store. |

I would've thought Snow white would have been too "white" for what he wants? I painted the roof of my clubbie snow white and it was a brilliant white by comparison. |

Shhh, I'm trying to get rid of it before it goes off. ![]() Snow white is probably too white but it is not a real brilliant white either. It looks like fridge white till you park alongside a fridge. I once painted a car with straight white. The bloke at the store was complaining that he couldn't sell me straight white because it wasn't in his book. I just told him to sell me 4 litres of any white in the book and leave the tint out of it. That confused things even more! Then he said that he had to add the tint to keep the stocks correct, so I told him that I wasn't going to stir it. ![]() |

I had OEW Cooper S wheels on my Castrol Green 850, they looked great. I reckon plain white would look like undercoat. ![]() |

OEW is pretty creamy. I'm told that MINI Pepper White is identical. The thing is that the white wheels were painted by the manufacturer (Dunlop?) and although they were called OEW, they were whatever white colour Dunlop used. So probably any creamy white colour would do. Tim |

With the day geared up to be so warm, I got into the rims early this morning. I was quite out of place with the motivated early morning Bunnings shoppers. Its not me to be out of bed that early, I feel quite productive. Anyway, I took in a Old English White colour chip, there were a few available on google images so I compared the White Knight colours. There's a few that are close across all brands, but I liked the White Knight Lace the most, and its less than 10 bucks a can. Any way, this is the result, Its quite a warm colour in the flesh. I painted all five and felt quite chuffed. The backs I painted black first. No point I feel painting white as they only make you sad as the road grime builds up. Maybe I needn't have bothered as I realised the whole lot will be covered with a Cooper hubcap anyway.... Tyres come next week or so. ![]() ![]() |
