Hopefully someone can lead me in the right direction, I was having troubles with the points in my 76 Leyland (998). After replacing with a new set we were still having problems - point gap would be set, car would be ok and then once turned off and restarted, the gap would appear to close causing issues. So a whole new dizzy was purchased and installed and it seems that the gap is changing again! Can anyone tell me what can be causing this and what on earth we have either done wrong or what we can do to fix??? :)

Points and condensers are coming from the far east now not made in UK.
Quality is not there.
My suggestion- bin both and fit an electronic module inside the dizzy.

Can buy these from most Mini parts shops here, or PM `convertible mini', or bring in from UK.

If you don't need a cap because yours is new you can buy a kit without it.

Those points are excellent. Screw them in and you don't need to look at them from one end of the year to the next.

I used to keep a spare set of points in the car, but I gave that away a long time ago with the new electronic modules. I also picked up the high energy version. Its a different module and runs the low ohm (< 1.4 Ohm) coils like the GT40R or other high voltage coils.

check to see if the little cam in the dizzy is centered. So mark one lobe set the points gap give it a spin check re postion the lobe you first started with it should be as you set it.

Then check the other gaps on the other lobes. You will soon see which one is out

Too fix it you give it a sharp tap with a small hammer. In the direction you want to move
the cam. If the dizzy is 45d these can give problems if the small plastic cap that holds the cam in has popped up.

Dizzys and point setings are best done out of the car.

The above is good advice.

Another thing to check is if the points are getting too hot, and the plastic is melting, which leads to the gap closing.
