Hi all

I have been in the process of a freshen up of the engine in my racing car.

So far this has included fitting a new belt for the Triger drive and a Pulsar distributor. This has the advance slots shortened 2mm and one small spring removed, is giving about 21-22 degrees advance at the crank. No vac advance is fitted.

I am looking for opinions from others as to where to set the max advance before road testing. I am thinking about 30 degrees total advance at 4K revs (mech advance is finished by then), but stand to be corrected.

Motor specs are:-
- 1293 s motor lightened and balanced
- 12:1 c/r
- 648 camshaft (50-70-75-45)
- Avonbar 1.5:1 rockers
- 45 Weber
- long 3 into one exhaust (leaking where the pipes join under the car, next job)
- Gower head with rimflow valves (Can't say more about it, haven't had it off yet)
- 3 synchro straight cut box with LSD.

Any advice from those with experience would really be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Brian

Yep I'd start at 30° total advance and work from there, it should be close. With a race cam it may need a little more.
My 1360 runs at 38° but it's had the chambers bathtubbed (no beak left) and this increases the max advance needed.

I think my S runs about 32 deg max from around 4000rpm
