Nah thanks for ya help fellas, ive told the ol man, hes a sparky so he's comin down tomorro nite to fix the problem. Most likely a faulty wire, or something. yeah i have a plan to rid of those ugly sparky work, i'll post ya soon.

Heya fellas, im gonna cut straight to the chase...i cant start my mini. simple I dont know wtf it could be, i checked all the fuses, relays, there all working, battery is also workin because lights and other things come on. Anyways i called the racv blokes, he came around and did jack crap. It was obviuosly a an electric problem as he'd check the electrics with the multimeter to find that no power was getting through to the coil. He did mention that minis are notorious for faulty idnition systems. Is that true? ANyways he said there is a way around it which was to run a wire off the ignition straight to the power of the coil. but anyways, if u guys can tell me something it may be, give me some advice. much appretiated twist. |

Although i have been making my dash, so i had to diconnect most of my guages, but surely that shouldnt be the problem. The day before i even started the mini no probs with them out. i wouldnt have a clue. |

I'm assuming its not kicking over at all. I kind of had this problem once. Faulty starter solenoid that I had just bought. Have you tried touching the two bolts of the starter solenoid together with a screwdriver? |

When mine was rebuilt it wouldnt start. Turned out to be a dodgy coil. Just one thought. |

it is the thing that is attached to the flywheel housing cover thingy it has got one cable coming from the battery and one going to the starter. Pat |

the solinoid is the square thing that the power from the battery attaches to there are some spade terminals on it just wiggle them you may have a build up on them and it is not making a good contact makka |

Has he tested across the solenoid? Anyway if he has no power across those two bolts he would not have power any where else. |

There are three wires onto the solenoid. There must be power on the third ONLY when the ignition switch is in the cranking position. The solenoid is only a bloody big relay. If the switch wire has no power to it when switched then start working backwards. |

Then you say is the sloenoid the starter motor thingo, because theres power to it, we tested it with the multimeter, but theres no power in the coil. aparently So we have a motor that won't turn over and has no power to the col. That means you have an ignition circuit problem and you have to find it. Start at the switch and work to the coiil. I can see why the RACV guy did not want to know. With the dash out and all the wiring exposed it must be fairly untidy and he has presumed you caused the problem with your work which is fair enough and most probably have. You will just have to find out why there is no ignition circuit. Sorry I can't be more helpful as there is no way to troubleshoot this on the net that I can see. Didn't Anton have a workshop manual for download? My apologies if I am mistaken here. |
