Reaming primary gears top hat bush, what's involved? Can you use a hone or do I need a precision reamer? Also, the rear bush, I can get both standard and floating front bushes it seems for 1275's, but only the rear bush for a small bore. Does this seem correct? Forget reaming, set it up true in a lathe and bore it to size. The 2 bushes need to be aligned. Q2. Yes the front bush for a 998/1098 seems to be NLA. You could get one made, silicon bronze is what the floating 1275 bushes are, I've been told. I'd find another 998 primary gear, there are heaps about. Up here, anyway. it's 1275 ones that are rarer. |

Yeah I suppose I could replace it. When I took the cover off I noticed there was evidence of a small amount of oil getting through the primary gear so I figured I would replace it. I've gone and pushed a new bush into the primary gear after using a burr to remove the old one. It would be a shame however to waste a good part and gear... |

If you find a new front bush, sent it and the gear to me and I'll machine it for ya gratis. I owe ya a few favours... 
Otherwise, I have a few 998 gears here, can probably fine a good one. BTW the bore clearance is .003" when new, measure yours it may be OK still. |

Is there demand for these bushes? Could you machine one out of a tophat bush seeing as they're the same size? If it's a sought after part we could organise a group but and get them made overseas (probably much cheaper than they're locally availiable for) |

I bought one from a bloke on turbo minis to fit 1275 straight cut primary onto my small bore. Was cheap and easy and there's heaps of info on turbominis about it. |

If it's a sought after part we could organise a group but and get them made overseas (probably much cheaper than they're locally availiable for) I'd be more inclined to get them made here on a CNC lathe so you have Quality Control of both material and tolerancing (China don't know what that is). As suppliers here have already done with Hi-Los, steering rack inner lock nuts and various other parts. BTW I think your idea of making one from a top hat bush is good. These won't disappear for a while as they are also a 1275 part. |
