In sewer ants. Sorry, had to get that out of my system :P

So, I should be picking up a 72 Clubman this weekend as I decided I could not possibly continue my existence without finally owning a Mini that can move. Very exciting times, now I have to think of the boring stuff - who to get insurance with. So, to crowdsourcing I go and I ask you; who do you use? Are they good? Bad? Run of the mill insurance company antics?

Cheers!

Shannons, esp if it's not a daily driver

Same - Shannons.
They have a 2 day per week deal, which works out to $27.75pm for me, with no pay by month surcharge/penalty/levy/tax.
You should at least have them on your list of mobs to try.

I have a 77 Leyland insured on historic plates for $66p.a. with NRMA. Shannons was about $110 for the same. But I think that Shannons is probably better for a fully registered car. :P

I had the moke with NRMA V&V
$300/year, salvage rights, towing (if you're over 200K from home - otheriwse you pay) but limited to 9000K's a year.

I now have the valiant with Shannons which costs me $125/month, no salvage rights (34 years old isn't classic enough).

edit: I'm 20, Male, full license.
So I pay through the nose

Lumley Special Vehicles - LSV or Shannons are the way to go.

I have all my cars with LSV - made some claims with no issues or questions asked over the years so pretty happy. They were much cheaper than Shannons as well.

Hey everyone

Thanks for your replies. I'll arrange a callback with Shannons (my parents are with them for their cars) and LSV

I did an online quote for SGIC (local version of NRMA) and got this;

COMPREHENSIVE PLUS
COVER
$356.82 (yearly) Excess: $450
Agreed value: $2,080

Not a bad price...

It will let me go for market value on the Comprehensive but not on the Comp Plus. Since I haven't seen a running, good condition Mini at that price for a while and I'm paying more for mine I would hope to see a bit higher Value - or am I being crazy?

Also, related but an aside - I asked the guy selling the mini what engine capacity it is. From what I have read and my (very limited) understanding, Clubbies came out with 998, 1098 and 1275s, but I've been told it's an 850. Does this make sense? Obviously nothing to stop someone changing the motor out for an 850 but this would count as a mod to an insurance firm?

If it's a Clubby it shouldn't be an 850. Give us the engine number prefix, that should tell us what it is/was.

Shannons are winning so far, full comp with salvage rights, $300 excess $4k agreed value, $274.30 per year. Much better than the over $800 I'm paying for my Statesman, might have to do a quote on that too!

Thanks Doc, I'll see what I can do about getting the engine number. The car is down south and I'm supposed to pick it up Saturday :D
