Post subject: | Brake light issue |
Hi all Im sure this has been on here at some point but im having a issue with the brake lights on my van not that they dont work more the pressure needed to activate them. I have a non servo cooper s brake set up at the moment and have to pretty much stand on the pedal to get the lights to come. Im wondering if there is an altrenative to the std pressure switch as im on the second one now thinking the first on was faulty. Has any one used a micro switch off the pedal box with any success if so where do you get them from. Thanks in advance geordie |

The later cars all has a switch on the pedal. It's not hard to adapt an early pedal box - just need a small angle bracket in the right spot and (preferably) one of those big plastic pedal switches. Microswitch would probably work, but make sure it has a decent current rating. |

You have two options, as Harley says a switch at the pedal will work well for years. The other alternative I have been told is the issue with those replacement brake switches are because they are made in Mongolia out of Yak's stomach. You can instead buy a made in USA Harley Davidson brake switch that is the exact same as a mini one but made in the ol' US of A. Something like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HYDRAULIC-RE ... 527wt_1131 You may want to check that it is a Harley Davidson genuine part though. Should last longer than a week if it is a genuine one! Let us know how you go |

Thanks Lillee, good to know. I went through about 4 replacement pressure switches and finally got sick of the crap parts and did the pedal conversion but would prefer to remain original so that is a great idea and I will swap back if they fit. |

Yeah not quite that simple as per what Flute and OP says. Quality in replacement switch is just not there. |

If you buy your hydraulic brake switches from Karcraft, they now have a new supplier. Hopefully, these new switches will last.... I did the brake pedal mechanical switch conversion a while back, it works well. The lights now come on BEFORE you get pressure into the brakes, so hopefully the tailgating muppet behind me might stop in time. ![]() |

Thanks for the info guys its a great help will have a look at the pedal box conversion as the idea of the brake lights coming on early will help keep the bone heads away ![]() |

I got a new brake light switch about ten years ago and it is still fine. I have killed about six oil light pressure switches in that time though! |
