Went to look at a rolling shell here in Townsville... strange thing is it had a compliance plate on the drivers seat mount that was in espanol, did they make minis in Spain or would this have been imported there from the UK? It also had interesting roof sills that I haven't seen before, they had quite large drain hole cut outs in each corner, I'm guessing these were the reason why the sills were in such good condition (no rust at all that I could see). |

google Authi Mini... Here's a start, historywise.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authi#Name pics- http://www.google.com.au/search?q=authi ... 40&bih=785 [edit] one peculiarity in the driveline of the Authi Mini was they did not use CVs. Instead, they had 2x Hardy Spicer U/Js joined together so as they could turn to way more than the 45° such a single joint could stand. Looks like one, the only other Minis that looked similar were the Innocentis made in Italy. Check it against the pics in the link I gave above. |

Not sure mate, he did have a couple of interesting shells in the yard, I think that was a 2 door, not sure of make/model though... The grill on this mini looks like those Authi images I think? Any other distinguishing clues to look for? Would an Authi mini be a pain to work with (particularily if I'm considering an R1 conversion!)? |

An Authi is very collectible. 
How the heck did that one end up ion Aus? It really deserves to be preserved. You should be able to find someone willing to swap an Aussie or even a Rover shell for that one. Cheers, Brett |

Hi it can be one... Authi built minis apart from from obvious cosmetic differences have also very particular details in the engine department: - gearbox casing numbers do not match any of the known BMC numbers ( if i recall they start with an X ) - block to oil filter pipe is different, goes close to the block and below the dizzy. Smart idea as the dizzy vacuum unit never fouls on it - even the standard 998's got forged rockers , similar/same as the S rockers , even the adjusters have same thread as S ones. as Kevin pointed, they did use a kind of Hardy Spicers instead of CV joints, the Slalom racers here in Portugal are fan's of these H.S. 
check if your engine has these differences. Cheers Luis |

Sorry to be stupid, but what would be the obvious differences? I'm thinking the front grill for starters (seems to have a different shape?), anything else? This one doesn't have an engine in it (though there are two engines out of the car that come with it, think they're a 998 and and 1100, maybe. Don't think they're original to the car, could be wrong!) Thanks for your help

Hi, The doors, ( door handles, door windows , hinges ), the steering wheel ( yours is not the original one ), the dials ( speedo, oil pressure, water temp ) would have lettering in Spanish... and there are probably more differences.... Cheers Luis |
