Hi lads,
Some of you might or might not know i own a Rover mini again.
It is completely stock but i would like to change the exhaust and extractors as the unit on them now are a little bit "how ya doin"

It currently has the 2 piece extractor with a flexi and that heads down to a box and finally the muffler.

Should i replace the full extractors or leave the cast iron bit on and change it all from below that?

I want an exhaust that can preform but i would like it to be quiet.. Would a standard RC-40 with hot dog suffice?

Leave the cast iron bit and flexi joint on. An RC40 and a hot dog, or twin box RC40 will be fine.

I think its less hassle if i keep the cast iron part so i will shop around and see what i can find.

Keep the manifold and downtubes, this way there's no mucking around with the oxygen sensor. Cat back is the easiest thing you can do. If you need extractors, make sure you get the right ones - don't just modify LCBs or whatever as they won't fit between the inlet manifold.

I need to replace the downtubes as there is a massive hole that has been welded up and i don't know how long it will last.

Will i get any benefit replacing the cast iron part as well as there is a bit of corrosion around the sensor and i would be replacing that too.

Yes it would work, but has no flex joint.
I'd suggest an extra stabiliser on the engine if you fit that ( I have three, factory was 2 on rovers).

Where is the hole?

Someone has welded a small plate across the 2 downpipes and made a small bracket and bolted it to the gearbox and one of the welds have ripped open. It has been welded over by the exhaust place but it will come back they said.

Then get rid of it. The factory didn't put it there.
I know why it is there - on cars where the engine moves around more the pot joints can rub on the downpipe. If that's the case, then fit a bolt on clamp instead.

Do Maniflow LCB's fit well on rovers or do they rub?
I had maniflow LCB's on my 64 "850" and i had to bend them so they would clear the rubber unis

I'd buy 2 new downpipes. The Rover manifold is as good as an LCB and it fits the Rover (duh), where many LCBs don't.

Kc may have maniflow downpipes, I'll check da cattledog.

If you buy injection specific ones then they'll fit.
They're a PITA to fit too, if you change the cast manifold be prepared to pull half the engine out.

hmmm I might just change the pipes after the cast manifold then as the sensor is located in the manifold.

I fitted the extractors to mine but only because the head off for repair work.

A big job for little gain on a stock SPI motor. No noticeable power difference compered to the original manifold.
It got a slightly different note but it isn't and never was loud.

I didn't put a cat on mine when I built the van, it only runs an RC40.

match the ports of the cast part to the head/gasket. that will help quite a lot.
and with a new downpipe don't forget to use new stuts and nuts. makes life much easier
