Ok

I seem to have a slight issue!

The van seems to turn over way too easy and not fire....

First off my concerns are compression as it turns over sooo easy! What compression on a 998 on turn over should I be getting?

Secondly I'm getting no fuel, electric pump is getting it to the SU but it sure isn't getting anywhere near the spark plugs! They are as dry as can be!

Take the top off the fuel bowl and see if got fuel in it, if it does then you have to assume there's a blockage in the main jet assembly.

What's the story with the engine? Freshly rebuilt, sitting for years or did you drive it yesterday?

you mean that you have fuel in the bowl.

If no fuel in the bowl, check that the needle for the float valve is not sticking in the seat. In this case, if you pulled the hose off the inlet to the bowl, then the pump will make the fuel flow, but it won't get in.

Are you using the choke?

Is there definitely a spark?

cheers
michael

As above +

To check spark , remove one spark plug , place it back in the spark plug lead hold it with a pair of pliers and hold closely to the block/head and get someone to turn the motor over and see if spark jumps from plug to head.

As above with the fuel problems , but will need more info .... like
Did you clean out the petrol tank then add fresh fuel.

Pull the hose of the carby , crank motor a bit and see if pertol pumps through it.

If all the above is fine " spark+Fuel " put a little petrol in a old cup/tin turn pour a little in the throat of the carby and turn motor over.

I had a similar problem , made the mistake of just putting fuel in the tank and expecting it to fire , needed to remove and clean tank also added a fuel filter ...and poured a little in the carby throat and brooom she started.

Good luck

Cheers Bill

I wouldn't worry about how fast it spins, if the cylinder is not igniting it will spin faster. My immobilizer stops the ignition, and if the immobilizer is on the engine cranks noticeably faster.

Really? Do you have some whiz bang Vvt that keeps the valves open when you crank it?

Realistically when you turn the engine over your fighting compression. If the engine is properly sealed (valves seating, spark plugs tight and sealing, no blown gasket and pistons/Rods/crank are good) than its more difficult to turn it over.

Unless your battery is shagged and the omission of the ignition system actually helps the starter.

And how the hell do you turn the engine over with the immobilser on? Doesn't sound very immobile.

Try some "start ya bastard"

I'm not exactly sure about why the ignition is faster with the imobiliser on, but I'd guess that it's because the ignition is firing a few degrees BTDC, and when the engine is just starting up the engine isn't cranking fast enough for the burn to follow the cylinder.

And the imobiliser cuts off the fuel pump and the ignition, not the starter.
