Does anyone have a safe method for removing the chrome finishing trim 14A8009 from the bottom dash rail, without damaging the vinyl underneath !! I did consider carefully cutting the strip and removing it bit by bit,but then where would one find another good one ? Finally how many components are stainless steel on the MK 1 Cooper S [Australian production]? |

IME you probably won't damage the vinyl - and if you do, the damage will be covered when you replace the strip. However, its not easy to get a good quality new strip - and it is VERY difficult to get it off unkinked.... IMHO the chrome strip is the more "valuable" part..... Cheers, Ian |

Take a 50mm wide paint scraper and take off the sharp edces with an oil stone and some emery tape (slightly round the edges) to ensure it is smoooth and won't cut the vinal. Gently push it, from the front, between the strip and the vinal and gently push the strip off. It is fitted with clips at various intervals along its length which will show themselves as tight spots as you push. Slide the scraper along and push at the clips, it will come off quiet easily. By the way this strip is Aluminium. Dave |
