suspension looks like one of the Dakar cars - spaceframe with a 3 litre BMW engine and fibreglass panels stuck on to make it look like a bini

It's just like people calling the V8 Super cars 'commodores' and 'falcons' ... there about as far from what they're meant to represent as that is to the MINI.. :lol:

Don't forget the Nissans and M/B `V8 supercars' too...

All 4 are just silhouette cars now, with clip-on panels fitted to a spaceframe chassis. Similar concept to Nascar but with better running gear.

I don't pay enough attention to it to know if both datsun and Merc have named their entries as any of their production ones....
and I thought that was Auscar... of which I still have trading cards :shock:

I actually suspect none. This would have all been worked out on the 'puter first, not figured out through trial and error. The fact they were prepared to do it up a mountain for maximum PR sexiness shows there was nothing left to chance.

Surprised they actually over rotated a bit - maybe driver got a bit scared and gave it too many beans at the last second!

Interesting technique...a ramp that is there to get the front wheels turning, and then gone by the time the back wheels pass.

Made me go watch the MINI again - the ramp doesn't look to be dynamically adjustable. But I also note they don't give a side on view of the launch. I wonder if they do something trick with the suspension (eg drop the back to induce spin).

Still say the filmed success was a foregone conclusion 8)
