Hi guys,

Just swapped out my partner's Rover auto or another Rover auto that had a lot less kms on it, now I took it out of a smashed car and dropped it in so know where it came from and it was running well....

What I want to know iis f 3/4 on the gauge is about right or a little.warm? Guessing it is running a hot thermo from jap....

What do you all think?

carby or injected?
Injected cars should run at half way on the gauge, carby ones do tend to run a little warmer.

86 carb

It runs at 3/4, I didn't here the elec fan cut in either... When is that supposed to fire up?

What can be done to keep it cooler?

Would an oil cooler help?

My 87 model I just put the fan on a switch, when it ran over half on the gauge I turned the fan on.
I don't know what it is, but every 80s rover I've ever driven ran 'hot'. None failed or died, I just wonder if the gauges were more sensitive.
Like the factory intended for them to be cooled with water but everyone by the 2000s was running coolant, which runs hotter.
The later cars had proper coolant from factory, which is why they seem to run at a more 'normal' temperature.

Mine always ran a bit hot with the stock radiator. Fitting an oil cooler, ally rad and a thermo in the inner guard cured it. But this was in a Moke.

Is the engine fan on the correct way?

3/4 is too hot, mine sits on 1/2
