Post subject:  Drum to 7.5 disc conversion

I have a 1971 clubman which I have just swapped the front brakes from drum to discs. I have changed the drive shaft ends to disc type, fitted new disc hubs and bearings. The issue I am having now is that when the wheel is put back on, I can wobble the wheel top to bottom. I can see the disc hitting on the steering arm on top of the hub. Any clues as to what this might be as I am hesitant to drive it in this condition.
Cheers
Richard

yes do not drive your mini like this

the problem can be related to a few things

sometimes the disc will hit the steering arm before the bearings are tight (big center nut)

sometimes the bearing spacer & bearings are not quite set-up properly (would need to see it apart myself to know for sure what you`ve done)

sometimes the 4x screws that hold the disc to the drive flange are too long & hit the hub before the bearings are tight

etc etc etc

i`d suggest you have someone experienced come around & rip them back off for an inspection
cheers
Matt

Sounds like bearings don't have enough preload
Have a look in the "How to section" page 2 , under timkin tapered wheel bearings
by Dr mini , This may help explain the importance of preload and torque
