Does anyone know where you can buy the original rivets that secure the Morris Mini ID Plate? |

I'd try John Smidt at Mini King. If anyone still has `em, he would. He cleaned out the factory when it closed. |

They are standard "Blind" 1/8 aluminium rivets arent they?. You can get them from any hardware. |

I just checked this on another car and the ones on it were steel rivets, not aluminium. Can someone confirm this? I'm about to put my plate back on and want to get it correct. Cheers. |

I think you will find that the original ones are slightly different to those available today. The original ones seem to have a slight flat on them as opposed to the dome of todays ones. If you carefully remove the pin from the rivet before you use them you may be able to replicate the flat by placing them in a drill and filing the end as you spin the drill then re insert the pin and bobs your uncle. |

Here is a pic of my 4/71 Mini K ID plate rivet. This car is unrestored, original paint. Rivets might be different over the years or they may be the same. It is definitely flatter rather than rounded. Seems to be aluminium. Or is it steel? ![]() |

![]() That one looks steel to me. Probably SS as it's not rusted/pitted, or the alloy near it corroded. |

In case it helps the part number for this rivet (BMC term) is DMP0829 (was 6K9788). It doesn't appear in the BMC standard fasteners bulletin which only shows bolts, washers, nuts and other similar fasteners. Coincidentally, DMP0829 is used to hold the grille surround finisher to the wing on Sprites. The holes for the rivets are 0.128" diameter so the rivet diameter would be a bit smaller. I'll keep looking. |

This question has really got me searching (damn you Gezo ![]() I've posted the question on a couple of UK Mini forums. I also see that Someford have recently reproduced one style of pop rivet (not the one you are after) and have many others in their catalogue. Let's see what response I get. http://forum.minicooper.org/showthread.php?p=137861 http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/to ... d__2738534 http://www.somerford-mini.co.uk/news-ev ... ing-rivets http://www.somerfordmini.co.uk/eshop/in ... word=rivet |
