Hi i have this 1275 head that was given to me but not sure if its fixable. Below is a photo of the two grooves on the exhaust side. Could a machine shop fix this?

I don't know much about heads but to me it looks like the exhaust is missing it's insert, maybe those two groves were how they removed the insert...

I`d say the insert came loose & was smashed into the chamber to make the dents

& yes i`d reckon that`s an easy fix

the inserts these days differ from the old days, so maybe a little more interferance-fit will make it stay in there

Yep it's fixable, just make or choose an oversized insert.
I once had an inlet port seat on an old 12G1316 head rusted right out in 1 spot, was grooved about 2mm deep (had been sitting around outside somewhere, with water in). I made a BIG insert from 4140 to suit, machined the head out and GR shrink fitted it. All good.

What about this one Matt , Doc

It is worth a go, put it on a mill and bore the exhaust side out until cleaned up- then select/make an insert & fit it. Then, recut all the the inlet seats for M2S valves.
Where the chamber has been nibbled away could be filled up with some nickel bronze (gas welded when hot, before fitting the insert).

[edit] whether worth all this attention though is a moot point, as I just sold a good bare 940 head for $150.

Here's the one I prepared earlier.... I got the head for nix because the PO thought it was terminal.

You can see the BIG inlet insert on #3, 2nd from left.

Both heads can be fixed eazy.i just fixed one that had droped a valve that had a lot more damage that, if you want them fixed give me a ring.

Sorry to hog your thread 1380 K , but i thought i'd throw mine in here as a comparison.
I was given this head when my brother picked up a Torana off a bloke , i didn't take
too much notice at first , but then had a better look at and thought it was cactus.

I have hung onto it rather than just toss it , i suppose hoping that someone might tell me
it was repairable .
