I may have the option on a mint 40mm Weber. Barney is a mild 1293 and I'm wondering if I should go down the Weber route. A bit of Googling suggests it may be a slight step backwards in terms of performance, but I love the gurgling noise.

Thoughts?

If it's cheap I'd buy it and try it. You can always sell it on if you don't like it.
Benefits-
Stays in tune (no linkages in there between the throats, no needles to wear, no throttle shaft wear)
Weber `music'
Easy to remove/replace (5 mins or less, try that with yer twin HS4s on the manifold with the heatshield)
Throttle response

Downsides-
Fuel economy, but not too bad if you jet it for the road using an A/F meter.
Limited manifold choices without a Weber box in the firewall (PLEASE don't buy a Lynx tall gooseneck one)- a Redline/Warneford 3005 is the best available that fits with a filter.

Dad's just picked up a 45 for the Major and he will have a 40 sitting there. Yet to negotiate on it. Not sure what chokes its running either.

IMO a 40DCOE is a bit small for a 1275, unless it's near stock. But your 1293 isn't modded much, the cam is just a Wade or Tighe 104 with Corolla rockers, and it still has 1100S sized inlet valves..

So it would be comparable to the twin HS4s at the moment. I'm really just chasing the "music", but I don't want to give too much away in terms of performance.

Not too worried about fuel consumption, even in view of my recent efforts (running out of juice twice within a week).

idle jet 50FD air corrector 85FP acc squirter 45 venturi 45 choke 36
145 jet 180 bleed F15 emulsion
Kev can advise you of a better set up, but this is how it is set up at present
