Occasionally to start up the car, I have to jiggle the wheel/key as I turn it over to keep the electrics going! Faulty ignition barrel? Loose wires? When she runs she's all good.

(And it's not jiggling the wheel to 'unlock' the ignition, that's fine!)

I currently have the same problem in my 77..
I duct taped the back of the barrel up and it works fine.
But the problem is just a worn out barrel..
The bottom of them eventually comes loose and the contacts don't work aswell.
Simplest way to fix it is a new steering column because swapping just a barrel is a pain.. A place that does that kind of thing may be able to fix it.
But I'm just chucking a whole column in..

Cheers, Rhys

To fix it you buy a complete Modification Ignition switch/Steering lock from me. I have new ones. Email me for a picture and price.
