Post subject: | Nb Mini involved in major crash at Lakeside |
Was browsing another car forum and came across a post about a big accident at Lakeside on the weekend, not sure whether to save the pics and post them or if they have already been posted on here and I didn't see them. I can pop them up but don't want to double up on them, aparently the driver was ok but the Mini is a right off, big accident. Maybe some can let me know if the pics have already been posted. |

Sad to hear - but glad driver is OK.. Quick check on NatSoft shows entry as: 65 Graeme Wakefield Greg Wakefield Morris Mini Cooper 1310 [Edit] Just saw footage on YouTube - that was massive and I hope the driver is OK. |

I think so Ty, was the later body. Been a race car for a while, can't recall right now who used to own it. Had flares in previous life. Greg was wearing a hans device which is what most likely saved his life. |

Tyre walls on the exit of a high speed corner with no run off... Surprised that Doesn't happen more often? That's a fair shunt, another reason why everyone should wear a HANS device. It's that initial impact that would of been the worst.. |

having driven round lakeside in my starlet mini I would have to agree this is the hardest corner to control mine. Some say under the bridge is hardest/ dangerous..... but for mine it's got to be this bend. I'm pushing the hardest on this corner than any other, and I've just changed into 3rd gear before taking the RH sweep and trying to hold my line before I plant it and let the turbo pull me away..5th gear at the end of the straight? forget it.. there's no run way left.. Glad Greg was ok. Thoughts go out to him and his car. He was a very good driver and knew the track well I guess the throttle and or someone fighting his line got the better of him to run wide into the wall. |

Thanks MG , glad it wasn`t me ![]() But,,, That`s a BIG hit !!!! & yes that particular corner has bitten many many many many many,,,, &&&&&& Many many more,,, & in similar fashion no run-off at Lakeside on just about any corner (cept Hungry but then there`s a couple of good jumps if you run-off there & if you do then it`s a case of mostly people find themselves running off there sideways & of course running off "there" at hungry, sideways, flying over those couple of humps, airborn,,, well.... well,,,, well,,, it`s always spectacular at Lakeside hence one of the reasons why Lakeside was cut out of running the big races there,,, the safety aspect just wasnt up to par & really was never ever going to be I just LOVE the place,,, it`s fast (Fastest left-hander in the country) It`s very busy,,, not much time anywhere on the track to look at gauges (cept the straight & it`s not real long ![]() ![]() awesome place, just awesome!!! Glad you came out ok Greg, that`s a BIG BIG Double hit with that other car smashing into you bro it may take a while for it all to sink in but chin up mate... there`s plenty of mini bodys out there to swap your gear over,,, but you only have one of your own physical bodys & glad you came out ok. |

and now it's heaps safer than the old (edit; very old ) days in that camber of the track has been improved greatly. |

That is a good endorsement for all the safety gear....goes to show it works! Glad the driver is ok, albeit sore, dizzy and facing a re-shell! |
