| Post subject: | Wipers stopping half way on the windscreen |
so they seem to keep stopping halfway i can't work out why. i have tried to tighten the arms to the body but nothing. I have to reach out with my hand give them a small push and they keep going again. the motor seems to be working but not sure what is going on. help!

The gears may be worn, a possible fix might be to pull the cable out, rotate the wheels a bit and put cable back in. The objective is to get the worn teeth to an angle where they arent used when the wipers would be moving. |

Would the contact plate in the motor be worn out in that spot? or do you mean the motor keeps working and just the wipers stop? |

mine did the same, but it was because i hadn't cut the new wiper blades short enough and they were JUST hitting the windscreen rubber

no,,, if the motor is still going & the wiper arms are not,,, then the contact plate is good still if the contact plate was no-good then the wiper motor would stop at the bad section sounds to me like you have worn wheels inside the wheel-boxes |

I had exactly that problem. Mine turned out to be many years accumulation of dirt, gunk, etc. in the drive system which in turn was causing a mechanical blockage of the drive cable at the wiper box wheel on the drivers side. The drivers side end of the cable outer sleeve is open to atmosphere which allows the crap to get in. A simple removal of the entire drive cable (Inner and outer) from the motor, wheel boxes, and a thorough clean and regrease. Then reinstall. I would be doing this first, and you will also be able to inspect the wiper box wheels at the same time to determine if that is actually the problem. You might be surprised (as I was) and a couple of hours work will have them working like new again. Disclaimer: Mine is a 78...I am making the assumption the system is the same across the mini range. |

The Rover ones look similar but are wired completely different to an Oz round motor. It's not that easy... |

it will be sweet, at the moment my has no auto return just power on & power off lol.. got to bee good when timing it to land on the right spot on the windscreen. |

My Nb Race mini had exactly the same issue (even came with a spare motor ) Bench test motor OK; in car - no go. Clean up all the old grease and gunk.- regrease ... and now works easily. |

Do not use heavy wheel bearing grease, it's too thick and gunks things up. Ordinary chassis lube grease is fine. Or LMM molygrease. |
