Has anyone run the filters attached below?

http://www.dellorto.co.uk/merchandise/p ... ctionID=41

One site claims only 0.25hp loss on average...that's pretty darn good air flow. Maybe BS.......

I've got no space for socks! Need something to make my engine last longer than 1000km...

They filter small animals and that's about it.. Put a pipercross foam filter on it, mine sticks out about 10mm past the ram tube

Insects aren't abrasive like dust/sand, and that's all the mesh will keep out.
Either do without, or go for a low profile foam type.

These don't seem to be standard mesh- they appear to be 2 layers with a foam filter in between??

Yeah, but it's quite an open cell foam - you can see through it!
Filtration would be minimal.

We're talking really minimal clearance here...

How Minispares can sell that manifold as suitable for a std Mini beats me..

Any filter is better than NO filter, for road use. But, the cross sectional area of these is so small that they will choke the airflow (like your `cut down' socks did) and make it rich, unless they are VERY open.

you have options...

1/ get rid of the weber
2/ put box into the firewall
3/ live with having to rebuild the motor 3 times a year

I know it's not really constructive, but I think that engine would be better off with a well sorted SU than that current setup, not matter what airfilter you choose...

sorry

cheers,

...4. Put a Redline/Warneford 3005 Weber manifold on it, then you can run either a Ramflo, 2 Unifilter socks (uncut), or probably a Pipercross.
