Folks,
This is the correct sender for the guage I have, and is shown as 1/8" NPTF.

http://www.holden.co.uk/displayproduct. ... de=070.016

I understand that this is a tapered (pipe) thread. Will the thread I cut for it need to be a regular, non tapered thread? If so, what thread is required?

I did a bit of googling on this, but quickly got bamboozed with jargon.

Just a regular UNF thread I hope?

Thank you
Matt

You need a 1/8 NPT tap, not a UNF one. It may be parallel or tapered form.

The diameter of the thread is not a regular bolt size.

I may have an old one here you can keep, will look.[edit] woops sorry, the one I have is BSP not NPT.

Good quality 1/8 NPT ones are $20 or so. A good fastener shop should have one, or Blackwoods etc.

Thanks Doc. Happy to pay for yours if you have one.
The charts suggest a Q size drill (0.332").
I have a 21/64" drill (0.328").
Close enough if I'm tapping gearbox alloy?
Cheers
Matt
