Did onle Cooper S's have the carpet retaining tabs beneath the door frames?

How were the rubber mats in other models kept in place?

If you are talking roundies, as you say no other models here got carpet. They all had the pov pack vinyl mats. They were the right shape and just sat there...

I Think you'll find that all roundies had the same floor matt securing tabs and press stud fittings.
The difference being the carpeted models (Cooper S) had a 5mm thick plastic spacer rivited underneath the round press stud to lift it further off the floor to accomadate the underlay and carpet,

PS the same plastic spacer was used on the cooper s behind the Grille to space it away from the oil cooler......................

What happens if you find a car with none in it, does that suggest replacement floor?

Yeah mate I know that, my mate had a new 997, a Cooper is a Cooper, whether S, or not. They all had good trim. Maybe I could have been more specific..

If your car is the early "blower in the bay" Cooper then it is likely not to have the plastic spacer under the male part (stud) of the clip. I have checked my 1961 CKD Cooper (1962 assembled and within the first 300 assembled in Oz) to find no spacer and my 1963 Cooper which has the spacer.

I realise that the spacer was introduced to overcome the fact that Coopers had carpet and needed the additional space to allow for the underlay etc but looks like the early ones may have had thinner underlay or cut to allow for the carpet fit.

I don't recall my 1964 roundie having clips to hold the vinyl floor in and my current 1963 model doesn't have clips in the floor. The PO had glued the carpet in

Perhaps, but they also might have been ground off as they deteriorated.

I wish I had a photo of the floor pan of my mini with me (I'm away with work). Does anyone have an image of a floor pan with the clips?

Thanks willy, Chopchop thankfully made a set of templates of my Cooper Carpet patterns before that Tzetlin guy took them to start his own business. I'll be making another carpet set for the Cooper before long.

I still have an original set of carpets which have been unstitched to be used for templates. Available to Cooper restorers. Still looking for the original looking tufted carpet for the Grey/Red combo. Saw a Green/green combo with very sympathetic carpet resto just recently.
Let me know if you find something that is close. I still have a small fragment of original (grey) carpet as a sample.
