Post subject: | Disc Brake Question |
Hi All, I've got 7.5" discs on a leyland and 8.4" discs on another leyland- they both run standard (plastic) flares. I'm now looking at replacing some drums on a roundie but it doesn't have flares. Will 7.5" discs fit without flares? I'm guessing no unless I find 7" Cooper brakes but i'm looking for confirmation. Anyone? |

Ahhh... I see. I was wanting to retain the original look but I understand. Does anyone do original looking rims with an offset to fit (is this even possible?) |

"Ahhh... I see. I was wanting to retain the original look but I understand. Does anyone do original looking rims with an offset to fit (is this even possible?)" Uuumm I don't.... What original look?? Which original wheels?? S steel (original) wheels fit without flairs ( as original) over 7.5 discs - the Mk I S for example... Original non-S steelies do not fit over 7.5 discs - at least not the Oz ones I've tried... it appears that later "ordinary" UK steel wheels do fit. There are a number of alloy wheels that fit over 7.5 discs without the need for flairs... The pictured "rosepetal" style as well as the Leyland ROH type, 4.5 FIA Minilites and MSpares Minilifes... Cheers, Ian |

OK. So what you are saying is any Cooper S rims will fit without flares. So i should be on the lookout for Cooper S rims - not standard ones? |

I run LS offset contessas without flares over 7.5" brakes. The calliper needs a bit of a tickle but no big deal |

I ran Clubman S pressed steel rims on my roundie without flares. Same offset as Cooper S rims. Any of the wider inset (4 1/2") rims will probably need spaced rear drums to stop rubbing on the rear trailing arms with 165 tyres though. Cheers Rob. |
