Post subject: | First Engine Build |
I'm playing with the idea of getting a bigger engine for my mini.(998 currently). Is it worth saving up and just spending the money for a fully prepped/built engine and having someone install it, or is it cheaper to have a go myself and buy something that needs a reco? Eg Miniparts in Croydon seems to have some for about $1500 as a starting point. (1275 A plus). I've never attempted anything like this, so will be asking alot of q's if I do it myself. I'm not in a rush to get it into the car, so time is not a factor, but if it's going to save me a grand or more in the long run, then I'd rather give it a go. Cheers |

I did half half. I had someone rebuild the motor, then did the install myself. Building a motor is an art form and requires some degree of skill. Installing the motor and its various peripherals is relatively easy wrenching. |

Theres no black art to building a motor, You just need to measure everything, be meticulously clean and don't cut corners. There's a very good how to here: http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=67980 Edit: I seem to remember it being a pictorial guide? Having said that some of the specialist tools like the various micrometers will be expensive to buy for a one of job so unless you can borrow them it might not be economical. |
