in 2 weeks time me and my mate are deeply considering travelling to melbourne for the weekend and going on the northen mini cruise etc etc. we were just wondering would the 850 last sitting at 100kph for that long? it's in very good condition.. but we just didn't know if it was too much. |

if you have a reasonable stop every couple of hours.. I dont see why not. so long as the car doesnt overheat.. what could go wrong??? 
service it just before you go.. new plugs, oil, filter etc....

If ya have breaks every so often, I don't see any problem. As tzi said, new plugs, oil, filters, that kinda thing before ya go. What sorta RPM do 850's sit at when at 100km/h? |

sit on 90 if you have to less revs and not working the motor hard and as they said stop every few hour let the car and driver rest makka |

when my g/f's mini boiled itself dry (dodgy radiator cap) it only took 30min to cool down to almost needing the choke again to start it. obviously with liquid in the radiator, it will take longer, but you get the idea... a 1/2hr break every 2.5-3hrs ought to be fine. I mean.. your gonna have to buy petrol anyway.. so why not stop for a bit longer each time u fill up.
speaking of... what kinda km/s do you get out of a tank??? |

If i was you, id consider taking a spare dizzy, and for some reason... im thinking i would prolly take a rad cap, 4ltrs of water, and a spare petrol pump... not sure why though... -Cam

-Cam lol man, my mate carried around 2 brand new water pumps in his boot. Now guess what happened 2 days after he got his liscence?! Yep, you guessed it, screwed the water pump. It's a dad omen! |

spare head gasket tools water spare dissy coil fan belt dizzy cap points fuel pump hose clamps zip tie's and a chiropractor........... he is to straighten you up if you need to work under the bonnet and also handie to repair yer back ater the ride makka |

850 does 100kph sitting on about 4 thousand rpm.. it coasts along fairly easily for not having an overdrive. Just had new sparks/dizzy cap/spark leads put on. i'll definately change the oil/oil filter. only fairly new coolant. my temperature gauge stopped working 2 or so weeks ago.. anyone got any ideas? i checked it all and theres only 1 cable going to the block and 1 to the light switch for light.. and both are connected but it just doesn't work anymore..?? |

put a capillary temp gauge on but a quality one but don't go with out spares cos crap can happen no matter what makka |

In my opinion.. Id got to auto-thieves n but a $22 haigh/ cheap elec tem guage.... 3 wires, one to the sender, one to power, one to ground... it may not be exact to the degree, but after a week of driving it u will know where it should be, and where it SHOULDN'T be...... I would also recomend a new thermostat..... but the last 3 out of 4 i have purchased (green and yellow package... T... sumthing was the brand i think..) havnt opened at all..... so my trust in thermostats and the makers or various thermostats has gone out the window!! The bottome line is.... even if the guage costs $100...its gunna cost ur dad/mates $75 in trailor hire, and petrol money to come and get you, and alot of stuffing about....and 4 grand for a new engine...... so spend a little bit of extra money, and know what your engine can do..... and drive accordingly Goodluck -Cam
