i had my flywheel machinedand there a three small raised section that couldn't be removed. Is this flywheel stuffed and if so anyone got prices on a new one

You don't buy new ones (except for racing if you've got the do$h-) - go find another S/H one and lighten that!

These 3 raised sections- is that where the drive straps go on? if so it 's normal to leave them, if the flywheel was lightened by milling. If they are turned off during lightening, 3 spacers need to be made and fitted to keep the strap height right.

no they are on the fricton surface. i think it has got very hot a hardened differently to the other material.

ohh, they're the factory 'shudder bumps', it's a special flywheel, made on a Friday afternoon by a bored apprentice who wanted to annoy a future owner....

hmmm, maybe I've been collecting these rare hand made ones for nothing, maybe the apprentice was making good ones when he was bored on Friday arvo...

Isn't there a wear process or something that causes this like particular spots on the flywheel getting really hot the metal hardens and ther after that spot is harder than the surronding metal and therefore wears at a decreased rate leaving a bump :?:

I thought the only solution to this was to machine the flywheel until the harder spots are removed.
Just trying to remember the actual cause of this.
Doesn't a similar thing happen with brakes to cause brake shudder :?:
