hi all ,

my mini is of to the welders and its two low i think theres no motor in it and want to jack it up a little so it doesnt bottom out onto the trailer is there a thread for adjusting hi los??

If there's no motor in it and it's still too low, there's something wrong. Winding up the hi-los won't have much effect in any case.

just guessing but it may be hydrolastic & all the fluid has been let out

No offence intended here but--> anyone writing a book about minis 30 years ago may not have experienced such worn or stuffed-with components as we are finding these days.

You should put your heart & soul into everything you do.

its not hydro. tis a rover with rover rubber cones that are probably knackered. for now, take the wheel off hold the botton nut and undo thw top lock nut on the hilo then wind the bottom nut out, it will raise that corner. when you get it higher tighten the lock nut again. put the wheel back on and repeat.

i thought i did remember seeing sagged cones but thought nothing of it at the time as you have greater issues to fix first.

The rover cones do sag quite a bit when they're 20+ years old.
With hilos all the way down and squashed cones the car can sit quite low.

With no engine it should be easy to adjust - though some jap cars have some pretty wacky hilos. The ones on my car are die-cast alloy ones with a big rubber boot over it that is sometimes confusing to look at because its not like all the others.

Some (genuine) Hilos have an internal mechanism that you adjust using a large Allen key...

I would suggest that most hi lows (non brand specific) should allow you to raise the car some 3 to 4 inches - depending on where you start...

I think its a case of looking at what you have and working it out (they're not usually rocket science
