Post subject:  car shakes when turning left or right at high speed.
ok so if i go over say 80 kph & turn on the highway my car shakes left or right or pulls the steering left to right.

it's not a wheel balance before anyways has that to say done it twice now in the last 2 weeks.. perfect.

had both front & back wheel alignment.
new wheel bearing on left side
new top & bottom ball joints ones side as i damaged a thread taking one off :roll:
New steering arms.

the cv clip did some how did pop of & i had some one repair this, my gut feeling is there is another clip has poped off futher down the shaft that is suzuki.

im not sure though.

what could be causing that kind of problem?

My car had the wobbles, I swapped the disks out for new ones and it went away (they were glazed and warped from previous owner)

i have new disks as well! but it could be that!


i have booked it into a drive shaft shop wanna get the drive shafts checked out properly.

Are the tyres round? (yes I'm serious- over they years I have bought both Yoko A008s and Avon Turbosteels that had 3-4mm of runout).
If out of round, sure you can balance them on the machine (I needed 70g once), but every revolution on the road they will move up/down. :evil:

My car has this bad - I had the out of round / balance wheels on the front of my car, took it in to get it corrected and its a whole new machine.

Not entirely sure what "shakes left or right" refers to but pulling left or right may be an rear adjustment problem.

Is rear end adjustable?

At high speed, when swerving or turning, minis ride on their back wheels so alignment in the rear end has a great effect on high speed handling.

If there is toe out on one side that is more than the other side, relative to the centre line of the body, this can happen and is extremely unnerving when it does. I describe it as being "wild and woolly".

When I say relative to centre line of the body is the overall rear toe can be correct or near correct, but one side is true to the centre line of the body which means the other side is 1/16 or 1/8 toe out. Handles fine turning one side, the other side is way oversteer.

Are your CVs in good order? Hub nut tight?? (Absolutely sure about that? Are the drive flanges seated properly on the discs relative to the hub?? Slight burring on the discs or flanges where the surfaces meet, particularly around the lip, can make it seem like it's flush, it isn't)

Are the discs seated correctly on the hubs? Use a dial gauge on the disc itself and turn the disc, this will show you if it is "wobbling" or not

Some places can shave/skim tyres that are not round as well...I'd be looking at the wheel alignment again, and for anything loose in the front end....especially the last thing you did :idea:

I had a similar issue on a friends Mini. It needed at new steering rack-end so i fitted a complete new rack. When I drove it to the workshop on the highway, the steering was real floaty, swayed across the lane and felt shuddery. I fitted the whole new rack and I tightened the wheel bearings a bit. When I drove it back it was smooth, straight and responsive. I only wheel aligned it by sight and it drove straight with the steering wheel central. I would recommend getting the steering rack rebuilt or replace if you havn't done so yet. A 40 year old steering rack can be pretty stuffed.

turns out my inner cv suzuki & outer cv was worn.

I put a new outer on & got a cv joint to do a new inner.

2nd time through a shop now pretty annoying but it's fixed & happy mini days.

Did you get your driveshaft checked for balance? If it's out that may have had an influence on the life of the parts.

edit just called they checked it.. it's in balance.
