Post subject: | SU CArb oil leaking from Piston |
Hi all, I am looking to overhaul my HIF44 turbo carb but just thought i would ask a question that has been bugging me for some time now. So we know that we have to top up the oil in the piston damper on them as over time they leak and disperse etc, how much should it use and over how long? I have noticed that the plastic plug like things in the base on the piston are always wet and i wonder if this causing me any problems as when the piston is at correct level the engine blows a little smoke untill the level is down further. any thoughts? I'm more familiar with HS series and I thought the daspot oil well was just a blind hole if you know what I mean. The little plasitic bit on the bottom of the piston is there to keep the piston from sitting smack on the bridge, and closing the fuel off totally, it sticks out approx .020", for when you crank the engine on start up to allow fuel flow to start. If its wet with fuel, I'm guessing thats normal. When you say "blows a little smoke when level dashpot oil level is down a little", what smoke? Blue / white oil, or black fuel? Does the exhaust smell like petrol ie rich? Cheers Shane |
