I know this has been done to death, but I can't get the search engine to go back far enough.

GR has nearly finished my engine and has told me to get an alloy radiator off ebay. 2 row 2 inch.

There seems to be quite a few different ones for sale.

Any one in particular? I wouldn't be surprised if they all came from the same factory...

I've been told recently there are two types: on the slightly cheaper ones the cores are bonded to the bottom tank with some kinda epoxy. On the better ones they are soldered, brazed, whatever it is. Haven't seen them side by side though.

what type of mini have you got? roundy or clubby?

the 50mm ones are a bit of a tight fit in the roundys,,, but easy fit in the clubbys

we have made the 50mm ones fit the roundys but it`s a bit of a trick, so if you have a clubby then go the 50mm

if you have a roundy then i`d suggest go the 40mm, but you can make the 50mm ones fit if you are keen,,, they`re tight tho

well matt runs this in his twinks 40's & 50's, im pretty sure he has no problem! his is well thought out though.

there would be the few pushing that high power out of the A series.

so if it is good for him it's good for me!

I fitted a 50mm one to my 63 roundie. It's a little bit of work but will fit, just. No body mods needed. I cut the top and bottom of the fan cowl back a bit so the top bracket that holds the cowl & radiator to the thermostat housing almost touches the radiator. Cut the same amount off the bottom cowl. Re-drill the mounting holes in the sides of the cowl that attach it to radiator. The alloy radiators need short bolts to attach the cowl to it. Only other thing is I don't think there is any room for a spacer on the fan.

Im running an alloy ebay rad in my GR 1410, no worries. Basically ive gotten rid of the stock radiator mountings and mounted it instead on the inner wing with some L brackets. The normal fan is still there but not surrounded by shrouding, and there is also another thermo fan in behind the radiator which only turns on when it gets a bit too warm. And depending on the thermo switch you go for you can adjust when it comes on.



Basically the same as in this photo however Ive now put the mechanical fan back.

no body mods needed,,, but (as someone said earlier) you need to get rid of the thin metal spacer & maybe trim the cowl & brackets a bit ,,, But i promise, even after all that--> you the 50mm rads are a snug fit... we have fitted a few & yes the 50mm ones are better at cooling so yes the 1415cc donk will love it,,, but it`s tight , so take your time & be patient & think before you cut,,, yee olde saying implemented here-->

I like using the original cowls & brackets & in as close to original as possible ,,, simply because they work so well.

we have run one of our Twinky-turbos at 220hp for a while with no problems, stuck to 82deg the whole time (thermostat temp)

we now run them at 170hp (saves tyres/money) & they`re sweet as a nut & we`ve also cut them open to see what a few years worth of use does to them & they`re as clean & new as the day they were fitted.

I picked this one because it's fully welded, 2", 2 core and ships from Australia (supposedly) and will get to Brisbane within 2 weeks...

i have a mini cooper rover 88 and looking at getting one of these rads which mm will fit in the rover mini 40 mm 50 mm

im in perth so it gets stinking hot in summer
